New Year, New You: Staying Happy At University

Probably the most exciting, yet stressful time for any individual is when he or she gets into university. Throughout our adolescence we dream of getting into our favorite university, imagining what it would be like surrounding by our batch mates and other colleagues.

Unfortunately, most of us don’t really end up liking what we get. But we must realize that how one feels about a certain event is all about perception and mindset. If you’re pessimistic, no matter how hard you try, things at your university will never work out for you.

Things can go a lot smoother than anticipated if you work on your thoughts and maintain a work-life balance, however.

Stress is part of the university life, however, you can easily cope with it. For everyone getting started with university, here are a few steps that will make your time at university enjoyable!

1) Start making friends

You’ve probably heard this way too many times. Quite really though, the quicker you get adjusted in a social circle, the better you feel. It is understandably hard for many to just make friends out of the blue.  However, if one considers friendships a prime survival tool, its importance becomes obvious. Friends not only help you cope up with studies but also hang out and socialize, leaving no time to loath a the boring routine.

2) Join societies & clubs

Not only are extracurricular activities good for your resume, they can go a long way in helping you stay ‘sane’. At every university, there are dozens of really good societies or clubs that you can join, and the best thing? You get to learn a lot! These societies may range from debates to IT to CSR to sports or even book club. So go ahead and join whichever interests you the most.

3) Don’t spend too much time in your room

There is no point in getting enrolled in a prestigious university if you’re just going to sit around reading books or watching Netflix in your own dorm room. There are plenty of things to explore at every campus. In fact, the the real advantage of the university life is going out and socializing. There is plenty of time to do stuff that we’ve already been doing throughout our lives but this 4-5 year period is one that won’t ever come back so it’s make the most out of it!

4) Don’t worry!

If there is one thing I’ve learnt at my time in universities it’s that there is absolutely no point stressing out over the future. You will get the job you’ve always wanted, you will get married to the one you love, you will end up happy only if you stop worrying about “what’s going to happen next?’. What matters most is your peace of mind so never compromise on that because a restful mind equals a happier you!
