Teenage Suicide Rates Rising in Pakistan – By Rvasiya Nval

Teenage years are both the best and the worst. They represent the age of innocence, with a dash of folly thrown in for good measure. The universe is their oyster on the cusp between a carefree childhood and a wiser adult life, when nothing seems unlikely as they try to reach for the stars.

When five young adolescents commit suicide in such a short period of time, one can’t help but wonder what happened to a life of fun and frolic that was snuffed out so callously.

Teenagers only know a path full of the unknown. They feel misunderstood by the world around them, making them feel alone and pressured. Their hormones act up and they don’t feel like they belong. Adolescents get anxiety and stress because they’re told that these are the years that determine their futures. Many feel like failures and believe that life isn’t worth it. This leads to some of them taking a big step and committing suicide.
Young people who are thinking about suicide may also stop planning for or talking about the future. They may begin to give away important possessions. They follow through with it even though they realize this is a big step and that there is no turning back. They feel that not even their parents care anymore and that is usually what pushes them over the edge.

Parents losing their children and siblings losing their brothers and sisters is the most devastating thing anyone can go through, and we want to reduce the possibility of such things occurring. For mothers and fathers, a never-ending cycle of guilt ensues, with most of them blaming themselves for not being able to save their beloved child. No one knows what’s going to happen and what someone else is thinking. So, all we can do is hope and help.
These heartbreaking events have been happening for a while. There are more than 100,000 suicide cases on average per year. Though we cannot cure everyone, we can help them.
There are many websites and helplines that can be contacted for example:
